Munch

Munch is a social app that enhances the dining experience. Users can create profiles, follow their friends and restaurants, upload photos, and order from the app.

Problem Statement

Food has always been a way for people to connect, but the number of options available has been driving many people to start to hate making decisions on where and what to eat. 

Not to mention the amount of time people spend looking at a loaded menu, wondering what to order based on text.

Solution Statement

Creating a food social network where you can order and share your dining experience and track who is eating what. 

Friends and followers can click to order the dishes you share - instead of searching in online menus.

Research

The first stage of the research consisted of learning about social media and foodie culture. 
We looked for social media apps we know, and this is what we found:

Instagram

  • Instagram food-related hashtags (#) have over 500M posts around the world in a single day.

  • Instagram has 600M, active users worldwide, and over 65% post-food-related content daily.

  • 23% out of the total Instagram users are food bloggers/Influencers.

TikTok

  • TikTok has 800M active users worldwide, and 90% of its users use the app daily.

  • Food is one of the top three categories that are most viewed on TikTok.

Food Influencers

  • Food Influencers get more engagement and followers than restaurants.

  • On average food, influencers make around $50K per post.

  • An influencer post will be ten times more successful than using promoted ads.

  • 40% of the worldwide population go to a restaurant that has seen on an influencer post.

  • There are millions of food influencers on social media worldwide.

Target audience and Personas:

  • Middle-class men and women, between 18-36 years old, living in metropolitan cities. 

  • Restaurants that want to increase their table turnover and social media presence. 

 

After thinking about the target audience, I decided to set up two personas that embody the users we are looking for. It was vital to provide valuable information about each persona, like demographics, problems, motivations.

Sketches & Wireframes

Before creating the design, I sketched out a wireframe of the app to find the best way to communicate and show users how to use the application intuitively. 

After sketching, I created the grayscale wireframes using Photoshop that I later used to complete the final design.

UI Design

I first started to set the tone and feel of the brand and design the buttons, icons, font sizes, cards, and any other building blocks that created the product's graphic.

The Final Product

The user's goal was to have an efficient app that would meet all the needs and provide positive feedback to motivate future use. To achieve this, I tried to include what I felt was necessary for the user to accomplish these tasks. 

After getting some inspiration from the current trends and what I thought made the food look great without getting in the way, I got this final result.

The Restaurant Profile

In the restaurant profile, the users can:

  • See all the necessary details of the restaurant and follow it.

  • See Popular dishes and other users' photos.

  • Order directly from the menu.

  • Read reviews.

  • Get personalized coupons.

The User Profile

In the user profile, you can find:

  • All the necessary information about the user and follow him.

  • See all the orders he ordered and posted.

  • See what he likes to eat and where.

 

The user can also see: 

  • Collections of all the restaurants and posts he liked.

  • Order history.

  • User credit.

  • Invite a friend to dine and use the app.

Post a photo

When a user orders a food delivery from the app, he can take a photo of his order and tag all the dishes.

 

After that, he can post the photo, and he will be rewarded for every order a user orders from his post.

Order from photo

  • When the user sees a photo he likes in the feed or a profile, he follows. He can order the dishes in the photo quickly and directly to his home.

  • By clicking on the ‘order from photo’ button, he can see all the order's comments and dishes.

  • The user can see all the tags of the different dishes in the photo.

  • The user can order some or all of the dishes and even add other dishes from the restaurant's menu. After that, he pays, and the order is on its way!
